Heavy Industry
Although there is little heavy industry left in the UK compared to previous years there is still some manufacturing and other areas where heavy industrial activity takes place. It’s unlikely that the UK will ever become a centre for industry and manufacturing again as the overseas market has much great potential for this sort of industry.
Japan and other far eastern countries are now some of the most heavily industrialised nations in the world and a great deal of manufacturing of all kinds of goods and equipment takes place in this region.
One of the downsides of this kind of heavy industry is that it can often be quite polluting. A great deal of manufacturing produces a great deal of potentially harmful emissions and waste products, all of which can contribute to environmental damage. Also, the amount of energy required to supply these industries with power is often astronomical. None of these factors are particularly helpful when it comes to combating climate change and environmental issues, however these industries are necessary if we wish our society to continue in the manner to which we are used to.
However, measures are being put in place to deal with these issues more effectively. If these industries are necessary then we have to deal with the problems they create. Thankfully emissions are being cut and waste is being dealt with in a more effective manner.
